Two Suns, by Caroline Maun
The old lead glass gives me two suns
this morning.
One is rayless and dim,
the other, in its full power,
imposes its array.
A little movement and the softer sun
flickers and disappears.
The sun is coming up,
whatever its number,
up, up, up relentlessly.
Today I will be a little anxious,
somewhat grandiose,
a touch melodramatic,
and perhaps I will make someone
who loves me uncomfortable
by loving them a little too much
or by being irritated by a trifle.
The Road, by Caroline Maun
The sages once said
a long time ago
don't lose your head
when the wind starts to blow.
The compass will spin
the earth will quake.
You've got where you've been
you have what you make.
Whatever you are
you pave your own road.
You may not go far
but you carry your load.
You will finally mourn
all that has been
unless each step reborn
you live in your skin.
Look in the mirror
meet the magistrate.
You'll never see clearer
you are the advocate.
